A motorcycle relay is an electrical device that causes a predetermined step change in the controlled variable within the electrical output circuit when the input quantity reaches specified requirements.

Functions of a motorcycle relay:

Connects the battery to the starter motor. When the electric start switch is pressed, it allows battery current to flow to the starter motor. The rotating starter motor drives the engine to start. Upon releasing the electric start switch, power to the starter motor is cut off, causing it to stop rotating. Principle of Motorcycle Relays:

When the coil is de-energized, the return spring pushes the soft iron upward. The movable contact, integral with the soft iron, thus moves away from the stationary contact. The two copper studs remain isolated, forming an open circuit. When the coil is energized, it generates a magnetic field. The magnetic force pulls the soft iron downward, causing the movable contact—integrated with the soft iron—to move downward as well. The movable contact then tightly contacts both stationary contacts. Since the movable contact is also made of copper, an electrical path is formed between the two stationary contacts via the movable contact. This allows the starter motor to turn over and start the engine.
